RV Tires Age Out Long Before They Wear Out
Here's the number that surprises everyone: most RV tires get replaced with 70% of their tread remaining. Not because anyone wasted money — because tread depth is close to irrelevant on a vehicle that drives 3,000 miles a year and parks in Florida sun for the other eleven months.
What actually kills RV tires is time. UV exposure, ozone, heat cycling and sustained load degrade the sidewall compound from the inside out. The tire looks perfect. Then it lets go at 65 mph on I-75 and takes your fender, your wiring, and possibly your slide-out skirting with it.
A front tire blowout on a coach is one of the most dangerous things that can happen to you on the road. This is not a category to economize in.

How old is too old?
Industry guidance is replacement at five to seven years from the DOT manufacture date regardless of tread. Seven years is the outside limit for most coaches in Florida. We'll read your date codes and tell you exactly where you stand — including telling you they're fine if they are.
Where do I find the tire's age?
The DOT code on the sidewall ends in four digits: week and year of manufacture. "3219" means the 32nd week of 2019. Bring the coach in and we'll read all of them for you, spare included.
Do I need to replace all of them at once?
Not always — but if they were installed as a set, they've aged as a set. Replacing two of six on a coach where all six date to the same year just means you're back in six months. We'll give you the honest math.
What pressure should I run?
Based on your actual weighed axle loads, not the number on the sidewall. Overinflation causes harsh ride and center wear; underinflation causes heat buildup and blowouts. We'll help you get to the right number.
